iOS 6.1.3 introduces new lock screen vulnerability, Apple introduced the iOS 6.1.3 update recently. The main feature? It mends the lock screen vulnerability security flaw that was there in the previous release. Well, guess what? It might have mended the previous lock screen vulnerability in iOS 6.1.3, but it has introduced a very new lock screen vulnerability, one that makes use of the voice dial feature of the iPhone. This is the beauty of security fixes. With every update, some security glitches are fixed, whereas new ones are introduced. It’s a vicious circle, isn’t it?
This is how this new vulnerability can be exploited:
- When the iPhone is locked, use the voice dial feature
- Dial any number using voice dial
- When the voice dial confirmation screen shows, pop open the SIM card compartment
- It’s done!
The call will be ended and now you can access the contacts and photos in the iPhone. You can also dial a number, and can also save a new contact. But this vulnerability cannot be exploited if the voice dial feature is disabled in your iPhone. So, older iPhone users should disable their Voice Dialing feature by following the following path Settings-General-Passcode Lock, iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 users should disable Siri in the lock screen by going to Settings-General-Passcode Lock.
This glitch has been confirmed by the Dutch website iPhoneclub.nl, It has also been confirmed by iPhoneinCanada. You know, what is the best way to confirm it? Check it out on you own iPhone and know how vulnerable it is to some creepy outsider. The game does not end here.
