How to Downgrade from iOS 6.1.2 to iOS 5.1.1

How to Downgrade from iOS 6.1.2 to iOS 5.1.1, We have received many emails regarding a possible way to downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 or any other iOS 5.x version from the latest iOS 6.1.2, so here it is. The process is straight and simple, we simply use redsn0w to do the downgrade using SHSH blobs saved for the previous version of iOS you want to downgrade to. Downgrading is not possible on the latest iOS devices like iPhone 5 but as we have mentioned multiple times it is always a better practice to keep them saved.

If you are a proud owner of an older iOS device like iPhone 4 or iPod touch 4 you can use these steps to downgrade your iDevice to your favorite iOS version without any issues. Apart from the iOS IPSW files, SHSH blobs are a compulsory for this procedure to work. If you don’t have them saved you are out of luck here, you can look out at cydia server if they have saved the SHSH blobs for you if you had jailbroken your device in the past. The point here is that you will need the SHSH blobs for any downgrade now or any time in the future.

When some of us might see the fast as why a downgrade to iOS 5.1.1 or even iOS 5.1 is needed, well it can be personal preference or a favorite app or tweak that got discontinued and works on that particular iOS version only. Whatever the reason is, using the steps below you can perform a successful downgrade without any issue.

Hi, Thank you for this How To. But there is a little Problem: redsn0w says “found a device in DFU mode instead of recovery mode” an nothing works…I dont get it, because redsn0w want me to put the 3Gs into the DFU Mode. Can you help me with that? Thank you!

    • just repeat the DFU mode step and you are good to go.

      • Sorry, I tried a hundred times. redsnow want me to put the iPhone in to the DFU Mode. I made it right and redsnow begins to work. But then it stops and the error is there “found a device in DU mode instead of recovery mode”. Hmmm… now my 3GS is dead! iTunes and Redsnow can see it in DFU Mode (Display is Black). Nothing works. I tried a lot of technics. Redsnow recoveryLoop, iRed, iTunes. But everytime the same Problem. My iPhone is still in recovery mode. (First the Display was exactly 10 minutes white. Every time I tried to exit or restart or recoverymode-Loop-Exit with redsn0w or other tips from the internet. But now the display is only Black! And no Battery Problems) I killed it.

        • Don’t worry, i have seen such issues in the past and most of them recover from it successfully. Have you tried TinyUmbrella to bring your device out of DFU/recovery mode?

  3. My iphone 4s cant be downgrade.. it say “unable to fetch the required APTicket from apple. The signing window for iphone 4,1_5.1.1_9B206 has probably closed”

Sir i installed a theme from cydia which caused the ios to crash and it was stuck on the apple boot logo,i forced it to be in recovery mode and then unluckily apple launched ios 6.1.3 just five minutes befor,as it have no jb so i want to keep 6.1.2 , i saved SHSH few weeks ago so i can use them in such a case,i am using iphone 4s,now i want to keep my 6.1.2,thnx in advance

    • First download tinyUmbrella and use it to get out of Recovery mode then while booting, press and hold the volume up key. This will disable all cydia tweaks from loading. Once you boot up, go to cydia and remove the faulty theme.
